Week 7 Run-cap

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

This week marks week 7 of my running program.  Although, it really is week 6 because I admit I did skip a week that was really bad weather at the end of March.

Yesterday I went for a 3.5 miler and it was actually the worst, most painful run I have had since I started.  I didn't drink any water yesterday, not one single drop before I ran and that is always the biggest downfall for me.  I need to hydrate my body extremely well during the days when I go on my runs or I seriously pay for it.  Today I have already had 66 oz of water to prep for tonight!

My race is in 5 weeks and I really want to be able to do the 5 miles in under 50 minutes.  I usually average about 10.5 minute miles, which isn't slow but is definitely not at the level that everyone else will be at!  I am really working on controlling my breathing and movements during my runs.  For the first half of the program I had been running with one of the dogs, but have recently had to give that up because of the strain they put on my shoulders trying to run faster than their slow mom the whole time.  Ross is really good at running with both of them together, so he is taking care of that now.

I don't know how people train for Marathons and Half Marathons!  A 5 mile racing seems to be plenty for me!

  1. I'm working on my running now, not following a program though, and I run incredibly slow. I'm talking between a 11-12 min mile, thought I did have one mile at 10:50 the other day! HA Don't let your speed get you down. Sometimes I feel like I'm not good enough because I'm so slow, but I just keep telling myself they everyone is different and it's better than sitting on the couch doing nothing!

I've always thought doing a 1/2 marathon would be awesome, but just running 3.1 miles kills me! So I'm not sure if I'll ever make it to a 10k or not! So you're awesome, keep up the good work!

  2. Are you talking about the harpoon 5 miler!!?? If so, we should totally meet up before the race!! I've been training too - although not on the regime you have - I did 3.5 miles yesterday and i'm hoping to increase every other day by a half mile...until I work up to the 5. So happy to finally be able to run outside!
